Nehemiah 9:17 (NIV), “But You are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful.”

Nehemiah 9:17 (NIV), “But You are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful.”

Recently I watched an old, medieval period film; it was all about valiant knights fighting for justice. In one scene, a condemned man, who had broken the law, was sentenced to death, by his act of transgression. He was placed in stocks and chains, and then put on a horse-drawn cart that took him to the gallows. The man’s head was crest-fallen, as he knew he was going to have to pay the price for his iniquities.

As he was being taken to the gallows, he looked up and saw, in the distance, a messenger form the King. It was the Prince himself. Hope arose within the man’s heart, his soul was cheered to behold the Prince coming toward him in haste. Never in all his life had the man seen such a welcoming site. As the Prince drew near, he said to the man’s captors, “This man has been given a royal pardon!” The man was released from the stocks and chains and set free, his transgression was forgiven, and his iniquity was pardoned.

My friend, how many of us have been chained in the stocks of sin, condemned to die, because of our transgressions, and our iniquities, by which we have broken the law; God’s holy covenant, until the Prince of Peace, until the Prince of Wholeness, until the Prince of Life, came in haste unto us, with a royal pardon from The King to set us free? Our text for today says in Nehemiah 9:17 (NIV), “But You are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful.” May the Prince of Peace come to your rescue, may you know His royal pardon for your sins today, and be released from the stocks and chains of your captor, “the enemy of our souls,” and be set free from your past, and truly forgiven in Jesus’ name.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
