2 Chronicles 20:21 (NIV) ~ Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying: “Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever.”

Notice their singing was not a battle cry, but one which praised the beauty of His holiness. Their focus was not on the advancing armies of the enemy, but on His holiness and His love that endures forever. Jehoshaphat was the King of Jerusalem, who studied the word of God; a godly leader whose heart was steadfast towards God. He took everything to God in prayer and proclaimed a fast for all the people to come together in prayer. When you lead a godly lifestyle, when you study His word and put it into practice in your life, when you take everything before the Lord in prayer and pray and fast before the Lord, you can praise the beauty of His holiness, and lift you voice in praise of His faithfulness, even when the enemy is advancing you can lift our voice in worship and praise unto the Lord.
There is something about singing when your enemy is marching towards you. First, it shows that you are not afraid and it shows that your trust is in the Lord for your deliverance. So many people have found strength in singing, lifting up their voice, stirring their faith within them, rising up and singing in the midst of the battle. The enemy of souls would have you crumble under the pressures of life and all that may blow against you and your family, but take heart, for you have an anchor, steadfast and sure, grounded in the Savior’s love. Never focus on the problem, keep your focus on Jesus, keep being faithful, singing with a faithful tune, one that declares to the enemy you will not be shaken, nor will you be afraid, for His love endures forever.
All through history you can read of the trumpet players, the bagpipe players, those with musical instruments and singers lifting up an anthem of victory and a battle cry to stir those going forward. Furthermore in our text for today, not one note from a battle cry was heard, instead, those who where handpicked by the King stood in front of the advancing army and praised the beauty of His holiness, singing, “Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever.” There is something about singing unto God that lifts your spirit that stirs your faith that builds you up and encourages you to keep believing in the faithfulness of the Lord.
When you fully trust in the Lord and hand everything over to Him in prayer, when you study His word and apply it into your everyday life, when you yield to His Sovereign Kingship, then your fight against the enemy and your battle no longer belong to you, as you belong to Jesus, and He fights on your behalf. Oh, to hear those words from the Holy Spirit whispered in your ear, “For the battle is not yours but the God’s” All you have to do is stand firm, believing in faith, praising His holiness and singing with full assurance that God is fighting for you: “Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever.”
My friend, whenever the enemy turns his attentions towards you, to try to steal, kill and destroy whatever you have in God, albeit in all its various forms, then lift your voice in prayer unto the Lord, bow the knee before him and rise with a song of victory, singing and praising the beauty of His holiness, “Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever.”
God bless you my friend, Matthew.

  1. Haven’t seen anything coming from you in a long while, should I expect anything in the future? Or does God have you doing something new 🙂

    • Hi Maria, thank you for your comment. I have been so busy working full time as a pastor that I don’t get to write as much. I have been asked to put all 50 short stories into a book and do a year devotional, but even that takes time. I hope that you have a great week, God bless
