2 Timothy 4:17 (NIV) But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength.

Paul was shipwrecked in Malta, he was beaten in Philippi, he was flogged in Jerusalem, he was abandon in Pamphylia, he was put in prison in Macedonia, he was left for dead in Antioch, he was put in chains in Caesarea, but in all this he could still say with confidence, “The Lord stood by my side and gave me strength.”

When David went through everything, all the personal betrayal, all the rejection at the hands of man, all the turmoil, and the heartache and pain, he could still say with confidence, in Psalm 18:18, “But the Lord was my support.” The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 4:7-8 (NIV), “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”

Furthermore the Apostle Paul goes onto say of his sufferings in 2 Corinthians 11:23-27 (NIV), “Are they servants of Christ? (I am out of my mind to talk like this.) I am more. I have worked much harder, been in prison more frequently, been flogged more severely, and been exposed to death again and again. Five times I received from the Jews the forty lashes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, I spent a night and a day in the open sea, I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers. I have labored and toiled and have often gone without sleep; I have known hunger and thirst and have often gone without food; I have been cold and naked.” Yet in all these things Paul knew the Lord would never leave nor forsake him, He would always stand by his side as the Bible says in 2 Timothy 4:17 (NIV) But the Lord stood at my side and gave me strength. During the most darkest times of his life, the most difficult and trying times, Jesus Christ stood by his side and strengthen him. What God did for the Apostle Paul he will do for you. David drew strength from God, as God stood by his side when he was going through so much, David gave testimony to the faithfulness of God when he wrote in Psalm 46:1 (NIV) God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. ‘Ever-present’ meaning God was always there standing by his side to strengthen him when he needed it the most.

My friend, whatever you are going through, know this, that the Lord will be your support, the Lord will stand by your side, he will strengthen you and by his grace he will bring you through it all. Jesus said, in John 16:33 (NIV), “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”. Also in the book of Hebrews, God gives you this amazing promise (Hebrews 13:5-6 NIV) “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” So, now no matter what may stand before you, no matter how hard or difficult the situation, you can know with confidence that the Lord is your support, that the Lord will always be there for you. You will never be alone, because Jesus Christ will always stand by your side and strengthen you.God bless you my friend, Matthew.
