2 Chronicles 7:1 (NIV) ~ When Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.

Here we see a magnificent manifestation of the Lord which was the result of a heartfelt prayer from the very lips of Solomon found in 2 Chronicles chapter 6. Solomon stood before the altar of the Lord in front of the whole assembly of Israel and spread out his hands to the Lord in worship then, he knelt before the Lord with his hands spread out. From there, he poured out his heart in a personal plea to Lord to remember His promises. He then went on to pray for God to forgive the sin of His people. Finally, Solomon moved up a gear as he prayed for God to come dwell at the resting place, the ark of His might. Suddenly, as Solomon finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple.

Oh, Lord, we cry out to You to forgive our sins and heal our land. Lord, we call out to You to remember Your promise to us. Come, LORD, and rest in the ark of Your might. Let the Holy Spirit fire fall! Let Your fire fall upon our lives as we present our bodies to You as living sacrifices. We kneel before You with hands lifted and hearts surrendered. Fill this temple with Your glory. Let Your fire fall and burn off every trace of sin, to bring the light of glory in.

As the disciples were gathered in the upper chamber, praying unto the Lord, suddenly, a sound like a blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. There seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. Suddenly, the fire fell, it burned up there timidity and crowned them with boldness, and they were filled with the King’s message from above, declaring His praises with tongues of fire, a fire of power and passion in the Holy Spirit for the glory of God.

My friend, dare we pray, “Oh, God of burning cleansing flame send the fire”? As we make a fresh dedication of our lives to You, kneeling humbly before You, LORD, with hands raised and hearts surrendered, Lord fill this temple with the fire of Your Holy Spirit. Let your fire fall, fill us afresh with Your Presence so our lives may reflect Your glory, majesty and power, as we, in turn, make it known to others.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.

  1. Dear Matthew, brothers and sisters in Christ, this echoes my recent days when God has been showing signs of rescuing me from a busy mind – too busy to give him the glory he is due. The theme for me has been a yearning for humility and I have read about “hesychia”- a stillness in God. I had thought my feelings of peace and contentment were because I trust him in my life but he revealed to me that these feelings were not holy – I am just in an easy phase in my life at the moment and feeling rather pleased with myself! I have inadvertantly built my house on sand and he wants me to move!!! I have written a poem about this stillness but I don’t think I can make an attachment with this comment. If you would like me to share it, perhaps i will have to type it out! Love to you all in Jesus’ name.
