Titus 3:5 (NIV) ~ He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.

Now here is a fascinating word: renewal. It means to bring back, restore and renew. In this verse of Scripture, it means that those who have been saved have been brought back to the place where Adam was before the fall, to a place of enjoying that sweet fellowship where God walks with you and talks with you face to face, where no sin, or any trace of sin, comes between you and God, or even contaminates your relationship with God.

Renovatio is the Latin word for rebirth, and this is where we get the word renovation meaning to restore, restoration and renovate. How marvellous, how glorious, is the Saviour’s love for you that He would save you through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit!

Renewal of a personal relationship with God,

Renewal of birth,

Renewal of the heart,

Renewal of character,

And a renewal of the mind.

How wonderful it is to be born-again and given a new start; to have a renewal of Life in Christ Jesus, because of His grace, mercy and love. The Bible says in 1 Peter 1:23 (KJV), “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” To have a renewal of putting off the old nature and clothing yourself in Christ Jesus, with His holiness and to have a new heart of flesh instead of a heart of stone, to have a renewal where your sins, not in part but the whole, are washed away and you stand cleansed before God.  This is where God wants you to be.

My friend, let His mercy touch your life with His Life. Turn around, away from your life of sin, away from your old way of living and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour and have a renewal of relationship with God, a renewal of birth, a renewal of heart, a renewal of character and a renewal of mind in Christ Jesus. May our text for today be your personal testimony from Titus 3:5 (NIV), “He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.”

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
