Mark 4:35 to 38 (NIV) ~That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”

When God has promised something for your life, it does not mean that it will always be plain sailing. The Bible says in Mark 4:37 to 39 (NIV) A furious squall came up; a storm was crashing against their boat, all around them blew one wave after another, rocking and throwing their boat from left to right. The waves crashed against their boat with such ferocity and venom that it caused no small panic among those in the boat yet, Jesus was in the stern asleep on a cushion. In a moment of desperation, the disciples woke Jesus up, and said, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” Jesus got up and rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely clam.
It is possible to know His peace when the storms hit, to have His peace when the waves are crashing against your boat, and to rest completely in Jesus when a furious squall buffets your boat. Jesus was resting upon the promise which He had spoken to the disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” When God has given you a promise, you can either take your eyes off His promise when the storm clouds gather, or rest in His promise which will get you to the other side.
The Bible says in John 16:33 (NIV), “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Take heart for He has overcome, He is your peace amidst the storms of life. Oh, the bliss of this glorious promise of God, from Isaiah 26:3 (KJV), “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
Rest in His word,
Rest in His faithfulness,
Rest in His promise,
Rest in His assurance,
Rest in His victory,
Rest in His overcoming power.
While the enemy hits you hard and rocks you from side to side, crashing against you with all that hell can muster, fear not dear disciple of the LORD! Rest in His promise, rest in His plan and purpose for your life. Rest in the midst of the storm, for He will bring you peace and clam in the middle of the trials of life. For Jesus is in your boat, He is with you and He who gave you His promise will give you His peace, so you can rest in His word.
There is an old Sunday school song with these wonderful lyrics:
With Jesus in the boat we can smile at the storm,
When we’re sailing home; sailing, sailing home.
My friend, when trouble, trails and the shortcomings of life come crashing against your boat, never think that Jesus does not care about your situation. He who has given you the promise of, “Let us go over to the other side,” will get you there. Jesus wants you to have His peace and rest, which is contrary to how the world may handle things, but you have an awesome God, who is faithful and true, who will honor His covenant of peace over your life. So, whenever the winds and waves crash against you. do not let your eyes or your heart lose their focus on His promise. You will have His perfect peace which will fill your life, rather than fear. Faith will rise up from within you to say, “Greater is He who is in me than He who is in the world.” Rest in Him, rest and don’t let knee jerk reactions try to rob you of your peace in God. Let His peace keep your heart, soul, spirit and life at rest in the powerful promises of God as the storms come. And as you rest in Him, He will bring clam and a blessed assurance of His faithfulness, and take you safely to the other side.
God bless you my friend, Matthew
