Psalm 91:1 (KJV) ~ He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

We are not called simply to pay God a visit from time to time, but we are called to dwell in the shelter of the Host High; to make His Holy place our habitation. As we do so, we find rest, a rest which is heavenly, a rest which brings peace to our soul.

Chris Bowater once wrote the words to this beautiful song:

He who dwells in the shelter of the Host high,

Will rest under the shadow, the shadow, of the ALMIGHTY,

And I’ll say of the Lord He is my refuge,

And I’ll say of the Lord He is my strength,

And I’ll make of the Host High One my dwelling place,

And I’ll say He is my God, in whom I trust.

Psalm 17:8 (KJV) says, “Hide me under the shadow of thy wings.” Living under the shadow of Your wings, we find security, we find acceptance and pure love; there is warmth and affection, liberation and healing, comfort and deliverance, kindness and hope.

The Bible says in Psalm 91:4 (NIV), “He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge.” This verse implies a place of safety, one which the writer of this verse can identify with. In looking at the Ark of the Covenant, one would see the wings of the cherubim covering over it. The promise of God is ever true, His mercies for all to see, and His protection open to all who call upon His name. Under His wings we find not only a place of shelter, not only a place of refuge, but a place of hope, pardon, power and peace. Oh, how lovingly does the mother hen gather her chicks safely under her wings to protect them from the dangers of this world. She lovingly and tenderly covers them under her wings to keep them safe and warm. Close to her heart the chicks find warmth, as well as rest and security. She gathers them with affection and adoration, calling each by their name. Her wings are open in a loving way to embrace them.

My friend, take the time to rest under the shadow of the Almighty. Let ELOHIM ADONAI be your SHALOM. His arms are open unto you, as if inviting you to come. Come unto the Lord all you who are weary and He will give you rest. Dwell in the shelter of the Most High. Feel his feathers cover you, gentle yet might to save. As you find protection beneath His shadow, you will see before you JEHOVAH ROHI leading you, feeding you, protecting you and keeping you safe.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
