Matthew 4:19 (KJV) ~ And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

How simple, yet how dynamic is this invitation from Jesus to Peter and Andrew. Right away they both knew what Jesus was talking about, for they were casting their nets into the sea for a catch. What then was their response? It is recorded in Matthew 4:20 (NIV), “At once they left their nets and followed Him.”

When Jesus calls us to follow Him, he has promised to make us something; He has promised to make us fishers of men. As we cast the gospel net over our towns and cities, we do so prayerfully and expectantly, looking in faith for a mighty catch, a harvest of souls.

Here is a powerful promise from the Lord, “I will make you fishers of men.” Not only do we have this promise from our Savior, but we have this precious promise from God in Acts 1:8 (NIV), “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Have you ever asked the Lord, “Lord, is there a mission you need someone to be faithful to fulfill? Are there people you need to reach? Is there a dream you want to place in someone’s heart to do for you? Then, here I am, send me.”

My friend, Jesus calls each and every one of us to follow Him, to “follow in His footsteps” (1 Peter 2:21), “For He who has called you will equip you with everything good for doing His will,” (Hebrews 13:21). He has also promised to make you fishers of men, to make you a soul winner, to make your ministry a success as you follow Him. So follow Jesus, and see what happens when you cast out the gospel net for a catch, and as you do so, you will see souls saved and miracles happen in His name.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
