John 12:17 (NIV) ~ Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word.

Here you have three little words filled with such a dynamic impact; powerful in application like an avalanche rolling down the mountain that started off with just a small snowball and has now grown into a mighty avalanche, roaring in power and unstoppable. These three little words are “Spread the word..” What we have here is power-packed evangelism with amazing results.

As a result, the Bible says in John 12:17 to 19 (NIV), “Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word. Many people, because they had heard that he had given this miraculous sign, went out to meet him. So the Pharisees said to one another, ‘See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!’”

Here is an amazing truth: how can someone hear the good news unless someone preaches the message of the gospel to him or her? Faith comes through hearing and hearing by the word of God. God is calling you to spread the word.

Spread the word about Jesus and tell the people of His wonder, love and grace. The Hebrew word for spread is martyreo meaning to testify, declare and be a witness. The only other time this exact phrase is used can be found is in Luke 2:17 (NIV), “When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child.”  The Hebrew word for spread is gnorizo meaning to make known, to tell, reveal and present the good news.

My friend, God is calling you to spread the word about the good news of Jesus Christ your Savior. Spread the word and be a witness, declare, testify and make known the good news about Jesus. Spread the word about Jesus, lift Him up high and God will draw all men unto Him, so people in this generation can say, “Look how the whole world has gone after Him,” because God’s people have risen to the challenge and spread the word. Go on, tell someone something about Jesus today and spread the word of His miracle working power; testify and be a witness to the things that God has done in your life.

God bless you my friend, Matthew
