1 Corinthians 16:15 (KJV) ~ I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the first-fruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints).

What a fascinating term, “…they have addicted themselves to the ministry.” This certainly caught my eye as I was finishing reading this portion of Scripture from 1 Corinthians 16. The Greek word for addicted is tasso meaning addicted with a determination. In other words, learning about Jesus from the disciples became their magnificent obsession, their holy addiction.

The dictionary defines the word addicted in two categories: 1 – A person who is addicted to narcotic drugs. 2 – a person who is devoted to something, or dependent upon something. The people in Corinth became addicted to Jesus and were never satisfied with a mediocre or mundane way of a half-hearted approach to know more about Jesus or a lukewarm commitment to the things of God. They wanted more, they were never satisfied with what they had, and they were always hungry for more of God. In all reverence, they became addicted to the ministry of the saints.

Become addicted to praising God,

Become addicted to worshiping God,

Become addicted to reading His word,

Become addicted to soul winning,

Become addicted to praying, and praying in the Holy Spirit,

Become addicted to wanting more and more of God.

Let Jesus Christ become for you your magnificent obsession.

In this modern day society many people become addicted to a diversity of life styles.

Many people become addicted to texting,

Many people become addicted to shopping,

Many people become addicted to the Internet,

Many people become addicted to working out at the gym,

Many people become addicted to watching soaps on the television.

To have a holy addiction to Jesus is the answer to live a godly life. However, some people might not like the word addiction and they would rather use the word “zeal” just in case someone might be offended, or get the wrong idea. However, if this word is used in the Bible, then it is used in a positive way for the glory of God. Become someone who is a God chaser as the Bible says in Psalm 63:8 (Amplified Bible),My whole being follows hard after You and clings closely to you….”  In essence it is saying, “I am never satisfied; I am always hungry for more of you.”

My friend, if you ever become addicted to anything then there is no greater magnificent obsession than becoming addicted to Jesus with a holy determination, just like the people of Corinth from our text for today in 1 Corinthians 16:15 (KJV), “I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the first-fruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints).”

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
