Colossians 2:7 (Amplified) ~ …have the roots of your being firmly and deeply planted in Him, fixed and founded in Him, being continually built up in Him.

I once planted a tiny seed; it was but the size of very small grain of rice. It was planted in a small pot; however it outgrew the first pot, so I took the plant out and re-potted it in a bigger plant pot. This time, I put a stick to support the plant to support it so it would not be blown over easily by the wind. A year or so went by until that pot, too, became too small. So once more, I put the plant in another huge tub, this time with an even bigger stick to support it. It continued to grow, only this time with stronger branches and a really thick root system. Another year or so had passed by, and the once tiny seed had now grown so big that I had no choice but to plant it outside in the ground so it could grow without limits. It is now a huge tree with the birds of the air making nests in it the branches near to the top. The root system is so big and strong that is will stand all by itself. Even if a mighty wind would ever blow against it, it would not topple over. There is no need for a stick to help it, as the tree can stand up all by itself. I find it incredible to imagine that this tree was once a tiny seed.

It just goes to show that with the right support, and being rooted in the right place, you will grow and then outgrow your environment. A seed has life in itself; but you have to plant it, let it mature and encourage it to grow. You have to water it and put it in a place where it can benefit from spending time in the sun.

As you mature in the things of the Lord you will grow bigger on the inside, you will outgrow your circumstances, you will become bigger than petty things, you will become bigger than you could imagine as you stretch out and grow in faith, from one degree of glory to the next. Your character will grow; you will grow in stature before God and men, and not let anything hold you back from fulfilling your godly desire to grow and produce fruit for the Master. As you grow in grace, love, mercy and the things of the kingdom, your roots will be deeply anchored in the Saviour’s love.

The Amplified Bible says in Colossians 2:7, “…have the roots of your being firmly and deeply planted in Him, fixed and founded in Him, being continually built up in Him.” God wants us you mature in the things of Jesus and His kingdom. The Bible says in 1 Peter 1:23 (KJV), “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” Furthermore, the more time you spend in the Son, the more you will grow. The Bible says in Job 8:6 (NIV) They are like a well-watered plant in the sunshine, spreading its shoots over the garden. As you do so He will strengthen you and enable you to grow so that when the winds and storms of life blow hard against you, you will be able to stand in His strength.

My friend, plant your seed in the good soil and water it with God’s word. Spend time in the Son, and as you produce fruit let it flourish and bloom. Let you roots go down deep and draw from the River of Life. Be in the right place that will support you and encourage you to grow, where you will receive a good, healthy feeding of God’s word. Then, you will as become just like the tree from Psalm 1:2 to 3 (KJV), “But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
