Exodus 12:2 (KJV) ~ This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

On this day we stand on the threshold of a New Year, a new beginning and a new you. The past year, with all its faults, failings, disappointments, with all the roller coaster of emotions, has come to an end. We now stand on the brink of this New Year, ready to turn the page into new beginnings, a new hope and big dreams, ready to step over the threshold into new blessings.

What lies ahead is a Year full of promise, with a positive and optimistic outlook. The old garments of the previous year are cast aside and the fresh new garments of faith, hope and love adorn our precious souls. The first month of the year is one, which is typically packed with many good intentions which trip off the tongue with relative ease, yet those who vow glibly to make a New Year’s resolution, albeit done in good faith, fail to put feet to their words, therefore their vows last only a short time. However, when we take the opportunity to lay our plans for the year before the Lord and ask His grace and favor to help us and direct our path, then the first month of the year is given over to the Lord, and we start as we mean to go on, committing all our ways over to Him. The Bible says in Psalm 37:4 to 6 (NIV), “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.”

The Bible says in Psalm 84:10 (Darby Translation),“I had rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God, than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” The Psalmist reminds us it is better to stand on the threshold of the house of God, ready to enter into His abundance, blessing and provision, to be ready to take that step over into new adventures of faith, new opportunities to serve God and see His glory manifest through the fire and power of the Holy Spirit and to have our eyes, our hearts, our souls and spirit focused towards His house, than to dwell in the tents of the wicked.

We stand upon a new threshold of blessing as we enter into this year. It takes courage to commit all your ways unto the Lord, and it also takes courage to take that step of faith over the threshold into something new. However, when we do embrace this New Year, trusting in Jesus Christ and the eternally powerful promises of God’s word for our lives, we will find the Holy Spirit guiding us in all truth, not only on the first month of the year, but every month, for the glory of God.

My friend, there is no better way to start this year than to completely commit it entirely to God, asking His favor, blessing and guidance throughout, not just this month, but the whole New Year which lies ahead.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
