Psalm 63:8 (Amplified Bible) ~ My whole being follows hard after You.

I came across an article in a national news paper some time ago; the story is as follows: In 1900, a 19 year-old called Max Hirschberg joined the gold rush by traveling about 1,900km across Alaska on his bicycle. He suffered snow blindness and exposure. At one pointed he nearly drowned. He lost all his money and eventually had to use his coat as a sail to power the bike for the final stage of his journey after his chain broke.

This young man never let anything deter him from following his dream. There burned within him a desire to achieve his goal, an overwhelming determination to reach his destination, to follow his heart and get there at all cost.

Now let me hit a home run with this one. If this man never let anything come between him and following his heart’s desire, then surely every blood-bought believer should never let anything come between them and following Jesus Christ with all their hearts—no matter what the cost. The treasure which we seek is not buried in Alaska, but our treasure is found in Christ Jesus.

“I’d Rather Have Jesus” is a song written by Rhea F. Miller with the tune written by George Beverly Shea. This poem, written in 1922, was left on a piano in the Shea home by Bev Shea, who wanted her son to find it and change the course of his life.
I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold; I’d rather be His than have riches untold;
I’d rather have Jesus than houses or lands; I’d rather be led by His nail pierced hand…

Than to be a king of a vast domain, or be held in sin’s dread sway,
I’d rather have Jesus than anything this world affords today.

My friend, what makes you tick? What is the motivation of your heart? Do you search only for earthly things, or are you be like the young man from our story today, a man who had a great determination to get to where he wanted to go. Now, let us imagine this man was Christian who wanted to share the treasures of heaven with the people of Alaska. Would not every one of us want the same determination to follow Jesus, to take the good news to the ends of the earth no matter what it cost us?

The young man in the story can inspire people with an infectious enthusiasm, to follow hard after something. Is your devotion, your heart’s desire, your ultimate goal, to serve the Master, Jesus Christ, even though it may cost you everything you have? Then, let nothing come between you and your goal. Follow Him with everything you have. May our text for today fill you with an infectious enthusiasm, with a godly determination and with a passionate desire to see this Scripture fulfilled in your life. Psalm 63:8 (Amplified Bible), “My whole being follows hard after You.”

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
