Numbers 13:33 (KJV) ~ And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

In the book of Numbers, Moses sent ten spies into the land of Canaan. The people of God had this awesome promise from the LORD. God had given them this amazing promise, and just when they were close enough to touch it, they come up against giants. Eight of them were discouraged, but two believed in God; they both believed He is well able to do whatever He had promised them.

The question which I have to ask today is this, “Have you ever had a promise from God and just when you were about to receive it, or step into it, you came up against a giant?” I once heard a brilliant preacher by the name of Janie Mc Donald, preach on this subject. She not only pointed out the power of promises of God, in one sermon alone, through the anointing of the Holy Spirit, she brought a great answer on how to defeat the giants of discouragement and walk victoriously in Christ Jesus your Lord.

Even though eight spies came back with a word of discouragement, only Joshua and Caleb came back saying, “Our God is well able.” In the mind’s eye of eight of the spies, they looked at the problem in the natural; however the men of God, men of faith saw a solution. It takes courage to believe in God’s promise, it takes faith to step up and enter into it. When you have a promise from the LORD you will always face giants who try to intimidate you, and who try to convince that you can never claim His promise. However, if you fully trust God, and if you keep believing in His promise, God will turn those giants into grasshoppers before you. The Bible says in Acts 19:20 (KJV), “So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.” So when the giant of discouragement comes roaring at your belief in the promise of God, you must rise up and confess His promise until it becomes an overcoming force. At first, the confession from your lips can seem so small against the giant, but when you keep on confessing, keep on believing, keep on trusting in His word, then the giant will grow smaller until it becomes like a grasshopper in your sight as you become the giant, as the word of God in you so mightily grows, that it prevails. It prevails against discouragement, it prevails against sickness, it prevails against lack, and it prevails against seemingly impossible circumstances and overcomes.

For if God has given you a promise, God will bring it to pass. And if God is for you then who can stand against you. God wants to build bigger people from the inside who take God at His promise and defeat every giant, who pull down every strong hold of the enemy and march on to victory. Oh how the Bible echo’s with these words of victory to you today from Judges 5:21 (NIV) March on my soul; be strong.

Chris Tomlin wrote a song called ‘Our God’ with these stirring lyrics:

Our God is greater, our God is stronger, God you are higher than any other,
Our God is healer, awesome in power, Our God, our God!
And if our God be for us, then who could ever stop us,

And if our God is with us, then who can stand against us?

My friend, God has given you His promise, let rise up and be like Joshua and Caleb, who said, “He is well able to do.” Your God is a God who is able to do whatever He has promised to do. Sometimes you have to rise up and battle in prayer and be willing to put your faith into action. In God you are a lot stronger then you realize, for if  God is for you then who can stand against you? As you grow in God you will see those giants get smaller and smaller until they are nothing but grasshoppers in your sight, as you rise up in God and become the giant.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
