2 Kings 5:11 (NIV) ~ But Naaman went away angry and said, “I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy.”

Is there any room for showmanship, any room for eccentric exhibitionists who want to turn something of God into a form of entertainment, where someone wants to be the star of the show, rather than bring glory to God? I, for one, do not go to church to be entertained by the latest fad or watch someone jump all over the stage and wave their hands up and down, to bring attention to themselves. If we ever go down that road, then we are merely relying on earthly sensationalism, rather than the powerful presence of a pure and holy God.

Naaman was a man of high standing, a man of distinction among the King’s commanders, but he was also afflicted with leprosy.  Naaman went to Elisha to be healed.  Now, imagine if you will the reaction of Naaman to the advice of Elisha,’to go and wash seven times in the river Jordon.’ Naaman’s servants showed wisdom when they said to him, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed?’”  So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy. This was a commander, a man of war, a valiant soldier of the King of Aram. It was the courage of a young woman of God, an Israelite slave girl who said, “If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.”

God will share His glory with no other. Our aim is to point people to Jesus, to let them know that God can heal, deliver and save to the uttermost. The most powerful men of God I have ever met are those who are humble of heart. They bring no attention to themselves, nor do they act like a cabaret act craving center stage. They simply stand up and speak the word of God in the power and fire of the Holy Spirit, where God confirms His word by signs and wonders which follow.

My friend, real men of God speak God’s word in faith. They are humble of heart and powerful in anointing. Jesus never once allowed the work of God, in terms of healing and deliverance, to be turned into a side show, but all the glory went to God, when people believed His word and stepped out in faith in obedience to God. If we ever want to bring attention to anything, then let it be attention to the amazing love of God demonstrated by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary to pay the price of our sins.

Lord, help us have the courage and boldness to speak about you as our healer, just like the young Israelite slave girl. May we simply take you at your word, and enjoy the blessings of obedience. When we do pray for other people, may we remember that we are just vessels through which God can touch the world with His mercy, grace, majesty and power.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
