Genesis 28:12 (KJV) ~ And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

What an astonishing verse of Scripture in which the Bible goes into great detail to describe this dream of Jacob. The NIV Bible describes the ladder in Jacob’s dream like this, “A stairway resting on earth with its top reaching to heaven. The providence of God, by which there is a constant intercourse kept up between heaven and earth.”  This verse grabs your attention by using the word behold a ladder, a stairway, is set upon the earth, the top of which reaches heaven. Jesus is our ladder, our stairway to God. He is the only Way to heaven.

Jesus, that ladder is, Thy incarnate Deity, Partaker of celestial bliss.

Lo, up and down the ladder the angels move with love,

And God, the Great Invisible, Himself appears above.

God not only blessed Jacob, but he also showed him that his angles are always coming down to earth and moving up to heaven, coming down to minister to those on earth who inherit salvation. However, we do not worship angels, as they are but servants of God. They are sent to help us and minister to us for the glory of God.

My friend, this stairway, this ladder which starts on earth and reaches to heaven, shows that Jesus came down from heaven and was found in the appearance of a man and made a way, through the cross of Calvary, by which we can go to heaven by His grace, mercy and love. We never face things on our own, for even in our most trying, difficult times His angels are always watching over us, ready to minister to us, that God might be glorified. Also, the Holy Spirit is with us to guide us in the way we should go and live, and to help us to see with eyes of faith rather than eyes of the flesh. Jacob dreamed of God touching earth with his glory and provision brought through the supernatural that in turn, goes up to heaven with great reports of faith and victory. Every day we climb one more step closer to heaven until one day we reach the top and enter into the glory of the Lord.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
