John 10:7 (NIV) Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.”

When David was a shepherd boy out in the fields, valleys and mountains he would come across sheep pens. The sheep pen had a wall the height of a man’s thigh with just a gap a ‘door’ small enough for a sheep to fit through. When the sheep had entered into the pen, the shepherd would lie across the gap, he was the in a sense the gate, the door. The wall was too high for a wolf to climb in and drag a sheep away over the wall. The shepherd was the door, the gate through which the sheep came in. He had the authority to allow what went through the gate and what went out of the gate. He stood guard over the sheep protecting them, he would lay his life down for the sheep, and he stood in the gap for the sheep. Can we see a picture of Jesus the Great Shepherd as the Gate for the sheep?

Jesus Christ, God’s front door.

Imagine if you will a house. If you wanted to go into that house you would have go through the front door. Jesus says once more in John 10: 9 (NIV) ”I am the gate, whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out and find pasture.”

Notice Jesus says, “Whoever enters through me.” There is no other way to God than through the front door. You cannot go around it, or sneak in by some other means. Only a thief or a robber would try and use a back door or climb in through a window. However, through the front door is the only way to get in. Moreover, there is only one way to heaven, one way to God, one way in which you must come and that is through the gate of life, ’Jesus Christ, God’s front door.

My friend, at Calvary God hung that door, ‘Jesus Christ’ on the lintel of a wooden cross, and used the nails as hinges. It is now up to you to enter in through and by God’s front door of Salvation. It is the place where you go to, if you want to cross from death to life. Just as there is only one door to your heart, so there is only one door to the heart of God and that is where you find Jesus Christ. If we knock on the door of His heart, it will be opened unto you. It is there you enter in and are saved. It is there you find fresh (heavenly) pasture, through Jesus Christ, God’s front door.

God bless you my friend, Matthew

  1. Thing is – the problem in most cases will not be the front door – it will be in the living room of our hearts 😦
