I have often heard the term, “Cut from the same cloth,” meaning they belong to or they are of the same pattern; made from the original design. The reason believers are called, ‘Christians’ is because they belong to Christ; they are little Christ-ians.
You are called to be like Jesus Christ in every way. You should be constantly looking to the ‘Rock’ from which you were cut. You are born-again, you are made from the same design, you are born of God, therefore you should follow the same pattern of Jesus, and pursue righteousness and seek the Lord your God all your days.
There is also the term ‘chip off the same block,’ this phrase was first used in a sermon in 1621 by Bishop Robert Sanderson as he spoke about the same verse of Scripture in our text for today from Isaiah 51:1 (NIV) Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the LORD: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn. He said about Jesus being the last Adam, “Am I not a child of the same Adam, a chip off the same block, with him?”
Now let us look at one more thing, the Bible says in Matthew 16:18 (NIV) I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Peter, or ‘Petros’ in the Greek, means ‘little stone,’ on this Rock, or ‘Petra’ in the Greek, means ‘massive Rock.’ We are all a part of Jesus, and we are living stones. 1 Peter 2:5 (Darby) Yourselves also, as living stones. Living stones from the Rock which cannot be moved or shaken, nor will the gates of hell ever prevail against it. The Gates of hell will never prevail over Jesus Christ, the Rock from which we have been cut.
My friend, you and I are part of God’s grand design. His grand design is for everyone who has been ’cut from the same cloth’ to be like Jesus in every way and pursue righteousness. The Bible says in Romans 8:11 (NIV) And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.
May you never forget the Rock from which you were cut, nor the price it cost for Jesus Christ to save you. May you always remember the Lord, to follow His pattern of living and serve God all the days of your life.
God bless you my friend, Matthew.
