Luke 10:34 (NIV), “He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him.”

The man in our story was left half-dead, after been beaten and robbed. He lay helpless on a cold road until a priest passed by. However, instead of stopping to offer help, he just passed by on the other side, so also did a Levite. Then a Samaritan, on his travels, came to where the man was. When he saw him, he took pity on the man. The Bible says in Luke 10:34 (NIV), “He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him”.

To the man who was left half-dead, this Samaritan had saved him. If he had been left in the cold of the night with his wounds, it is likely that he would have died. Notice if you will, the place where he was left, it was on the way from Jerusalem to Jericho . He was left in a place of pain and hurt, alone and vulnerable. But the Samaritan put him on his donkey, and carried him when he could not go on any further, because of what had happened to him.

When you feel down, or have been put down by other people, beaten, battered and bruised; when you feel you just cannot go on, nor do you have the strength to do so, Jesus can, and will lift you up and carry you. He will take care of you, and take you to a place of safety, to a place of quiet waters and there, refresh your soul.

This man was:

Taken from a place of being beaten and bruised,

Taken from a place of being robbed and stripped,

Taken from a place of pain and hurt,

Taken from a place of loneliness and despair,

Taken from a place of rejection and being abandoned.

He was taken from it all, to a new place;

To a place of safety and security,

To a place of healing and wholeness,

To a place of restoration and encouragement,

To a place of rest and peace,

To a place of being fed and nourished,

To a place of care and blessing,

To a place where it was all provided for him,

Where someone had paid for it all.

My friend, Jesus wants to come to you on the Jericho road, to help you, to carry you, and take you to a better place. He wants to take you from the road of loneliness and brokenness, to a house of healing and rest, a place where you will be looked after, because of the loving compassion and generosity of your Saviour Jesus.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
