Song of Solomon 2:1 (KJV) ~ I am the rose of Sharon.

It was beautiful day in June 2009, the sun shone down from the heavens, as we walked to the gates leading to Balloch Castle, near the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, in Scotland. “Look, what beautiful roses,” my fiancée said to me. They had wrapped themselves around the metal fence of the cottage which lay to the right of the entrance gates to the estate. There must have been about ten to fifteen of them, all in full bloom, and as big as your two hands joined together. We both took turns at smelling them. They were the most fragrant roses we had ever smelled, we even took pictures of them. They were deep ruby red, with every petal radiant in colour. When you touched them, they felt like velvet.

Among the flowers of the Earth, the rose is said to be the sweetest. Furthermore, Jesus is infinitely the most beautiful rose within the garden of our soul, more beautiful, and more treasured than anything else that all of creation could ever muster. The rose of Sharon is said to be the most beautiful among every rose, or as the Bible says in Song of Songs 5:10 (KJV), “The fairest among ten thousand.” Oh, Rose of Sharon, let me blossom with you in beauty, may my petals of velvet grace enrich those whom my life touches with your compassion, mercy and love.

I thought to myself, “God did not intend for us to be so wrapped up in ourselves that we never bloom for Him, nor did He make us to be a people who can never open up for the world to see the beauty of His saving grace through us.”

You are brilliant and God is totally with you, so don’t hide your brilliance today. We are not called to be shrinking violets, so blossom in your day for Jesus. Let His glory in you be evident to all, let His fragrance so fill your lives that the world will notice, so much so, that they will be stopped in their tracks, not only admire the reflection of His glory in you, but also to take in the beautiful aroma of Christ Jesus which flows from you. The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 2:15 (NIV), “For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.”

My friend, God wants us to be in full bloom, full of life and radiant for Jesus. However, we can only do so when we living and rooted in the true Vine, from where we draw our living waters and are fed, where His rays bless us and cause us to grow and mature into a mirror image of the ‘Rose Of Sharon,’ Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
