Exodus 8:23 (NIV) ~ I will make a distinction between my people and your people.

The distinction which this verse of Scripture talks about is between the people who lived in the land of Goshen and the people of Egypt. The Hebrew word for distinction is pala meaning to set a part and deal differently with. The dictionary explains the word distinction as follows: special honour, favour and fame, a state of being different.

It is my conviction that there must be a clear distinction between the people of Goshen and the people of Egypt, there must be a clear distinction between the people of light and the people of darkness. There must be a clear distinction between good and bad, holiness and ungodliness.

The Lord brought His people out of Egypt, by one mighty miracle after another, He opened up the sea so the people could walk across on dry land, then He gave them Manna from heaven and water from a rock. Then, Moses said in Exodus 33:16 (NIV), “How will anyone know that you are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the other people on the face of the earth?” The answer is the Presence of God.

Unless God’s Presence goes with you how will anyone notice a distinction between you and those who chose to live, figuratively speaking, in Egypt? Unless Christ lives in you and shines through you just as the glory of the LORD God Almighty shone through Moses, how will people ever see a distinction in you?

God, who made a clear distinction between the people of Goshen and the people of Egypt, between those who want who call upon His name to be saved and follow Him, know His favour, His honour and through being born-again, become a new creation in Christ Jesus.

My friend, in this world of “Egypt” may God show you His favour and His blessing. May He honour you and fill you with His Presence so that the world may see and know that you are set apart to serve God with life, liberty and joy in the Holy Spirit. May the glory of the LORD shine through you so the world may see a distinction in you and know that you belong to God, and His Presence is with you.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
