2 Chronicles 15:7 (NIV) ~ But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.

What a timely word from the Lord to you today. Don’t give up; keep going strong and your work will be rewarded. This word from our text for today was spoken to Asa, the King of Judah, who wanted to bring about a reform, yet he faced a difficult time in doing so. However, King Asa did not give up and, in time, all the people sought the Lord and God blessed them.

Recently, in your life has there been a situation which you have found difficult, where you have prayed for God to bring about a change? Have you laboured every week and even asked yourself the question, “Why do I bother, why do I do this without anyone even noticing, or without even one word of thanks from anyone?” But deep down you know you are doing it because God has called you to do it. Did you know that mostly everyone who has ever been called to do something for God has faced opposition? Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States once said, “The only way to avoid criticism is to do nothing and be nothing. Criticism is part of the price paid for leaping past mediocrity.”

Scripture states that the testing of our faith develops perseverance, or to use a more modern term, “stick-to-it-ness”. The Greek word for “perseverance” is, “Hypomone”, meaning, “endurance, patience, standing firm”. No matter how hard it seems, no matter how difficult situations or circumstances may appear, stand firm. Stay strong and do not give in and your work will be rewarded. The American Baseball player, Babe Ruth once said, “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.”

My friend, keep being faithful in the things of God, keep being faithful in your prayer life, keep being faithful in reading your Bible, keep being faithful in putting what you believe into action, keep being faithful in serving the Lord, for God sees your deeds, God sees the motivation of your heart, God sees your service of sacrifice for Him and He will reward you, just as our text for today says in 2 Chronicles 15:7 (NIV), “But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

God bless you my friend, Matthew
