Genesis 17:5 (NIV) No longer will you be called Abram ; your name will be Abraham.

When Abram entered into a covenant relationship with God, God blessed him with a new name as result his name was no longer Abram but Abraham. From that moment on Abraham lived with a heavenly purpose. Two letters were added to his name, two very important letters, ‘ah’ It is very interesting to note that one of the names by which God is known is JEHOVAH. God gave promises to Abraham that he fulfilled through the blessings of the covenant with him. By calling Abram, Abraham, God was saying, “You belong to me. You are not just anyone but you Abraham, someone so close to me that I call you my friend.” Abraham had a new hope and because of the covenant relationship with God, Abraham live life on purpose with a heavenly purpose and always had his eyes set on heaven for the Bible says in Hebrews 11:10 (NIV) For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

When enter you into a covenant relationship of marriage, your wife takes upon herself your last name. It signifies that you are in a covenant relationship, that she has taken a part of your name and she wants to come under your covering.

When Jesus died on the cross and rose again, he did it so you can have a covenant relationship with Him. When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour you become a Christian ‘Christ-ians’ meaning Christ in you. God will bless you with all the promises which are yours through the new covenant in Jesus Christ. As you enter into a new covenant relationship you will with Jesus you come under His covering, His protection, His provision. Under His precious and powerful name which is now given unto you, its says, “You belong to Jesus,” not only do you belong long to Him, but you are also His friend. In Christ Jesus you not only have a new name but you also have a new way of living, where you live life on purpose and with a heavenly purpose, for the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NIV) Therefore if anyone is in Christ Jesus, he is a new creation; the old has gone the new has come.

My friend, God wants everyone to come under His covering, His protection, His provision. His desire is for all men to be saved, and to come into a covenant relationship with Jesus. Once you have received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour you will have a sign over your heart which says, “This one belong to Jesus” you then live with a heavenly purpose and know God’s faithfulness in your life, for every promise God gives you He will fulfil. You will also have the same hope as Abraham, we are looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God, we are looking forward to Heaven.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
