Lamentations 3:22 to 23 (KJV) It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:22 to 23 (KJV) It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Within chapter 16 of the book of Exodus there is the story of fresh manna from heaven falling like rain in the morning. When the Israelites got up in the morning, they went out and gathered fresh manna. They went out and searched for the fresh blessings from God. They could not live in yesterdays blessing, yesterdays manna. They went out and looked for something new every morning.

I have heard so many people say, “I remember years ago when God did this and when God did that.” As much as it’s great to remember what God has done for his people, God does not live in the past. His blessings are not just for yesterday, they are fresh everyday. God has something new every morning just for you. For our text for today says in Lamentations 3:22 to 23 (KJV) It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

Edith McNeil once penned these beautiful words from our text for today into a song with these wonderfully inspiring lyrics:

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,

His mercies never come to an end,

They are new every morning, new every morning,

Great is Thy faithfulness O Lord,

Great is Thy faithfulness.

Someone once said, “When you go to the grocery store, you do not reach for things that are out of date, you reach for the things that are fresh.” Just like the people of Israel who arose each and every morning and went out to search for the fresh manna. So every morning you have to get up and reach out to God, for something fresh, for something new every day.

My friend, reach out to God everyday for a fresh and new blessing. Reach out to God for his fresh mercies; his fresh compassion towards you; his fresh anointing and his fresh word (manna from heaven) for you today. For God has something new every morning just for you.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.

  1. Thanks for sharing this Matthew. I was writing a monthly letter to my SFO fraternity in Portland and researched the story of Manna in Exodus 16 talking about receiving our daily bread when I stumbled across your blog and was blessed by your reflection of the Lord’s mercies being renewed every morning. Thanks for the blessing of your column. Keep up the good work! My blogging is all academic now, but we plan to have a blog for our fraternity and region soon. Thanks again! Nice WordPress blog! – Mike
