Luke 2:52 (NIV) ~ And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men.

Luke 2:52 (NIV) ~ And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men.

When you make a quality decision to follow Jesus, to be imitators of Him, to surrender our life to His will and die to self, the Bible says in 1 Peter 2:21 (NIV), “To this were you called because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in His footsteps.” As you follow in His footsteps, as you learn to hear and obey the voice of the Holy Spirit. When you do this, then there will be no limits to what God can do with you, God wants to build bigger people from the inside out. He wants each and every one of us to grow in wisdom and stature, and to grow in His favour, and also with everyone else.

Whenever you face giants with fortified walls, you can say with confidence, “The higher you build your walls the taller I become.” God wants you to grow in the inside, to be full of courage, full of faith and full of the fire and power of the Holy Spirit.

M. Dunham once wrote, “Sir Edmund Hilary was the first person to conquer Mt. Everest. The first time he tried, he failed. He was knighted by the Queen of England, and at the gala occasion, on the wall behind the head table, was a huge picture of Mt. Everest. The people gave him a standing ovation for even daring to attempt the climb. When they ceased applauding, Hilary turned his back to the audience, faced that picture and said, ‘Mt. Everest, you have defeated me once and you might defeat me again. But I’m coming back again and again, and I’m going to win because you can’t get any bigger, Mt. Everest, and I can.’”

You may face things which look like giants before you, which would put other people off from pressing in to the Promised Land. However, you should be like Caleb and Joshua who had a different spirit within them. A spirit which enabled them to rise up in faith and declare, “Our God is able to do!”

My friend, God wants to build bigger people, with bigger dreams who are not restricted in the natural with their human limitations. But rather, they trust God with everything they have, they surrender daily to Him, dying to self and taking up the cross to follow in His footsteps while growing daily in God. For just as the Bible says in our text for today in Luke 2:52 (NIV), “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men,” may God build bigger people to be men and woman of who grow in God, who grow in His wisdom, who grow in stature, who enjoy the favour of God and the favour of whomever God may bring them into contact with.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.

  1. I am convinced that the only limit to God’s willingness to bless His children with power is the doubt we carry along in our journey.

Father, please slam that stiff rod of steel called belief down our spines. Your name, Your Holy Name, be glorified forever! By the blood of Your Beautiful Son Jesus, this is offered.

    By His Grace.

  2. Awesome post, I never looked at the verse how you explained it. I will be using 2011 as my year to grow taller and bigger and in every way possible.
Have a very blessed New Year
