‘Excalibur’ the sword used by King Arthur and the, ‘Claymore,’ wielded by William Wallace of Scotland are very famous swords, and I’m sure that when you think of them, an image comes to mind. There are other swords as well, such as the ‘Samurai’ from Japan, and the ‘Sabre’ sword used by the three Musketeers, but nothing in history even comes close to how accurate and, how powerful in battle, is the “sword of the Spirit, the word of God”. It not only cuts, but it is living, it is active, it penetrates, it divides, and it cuts deep into the spirit, something a manmade sword can never do.

The Bible says in Revelation 19:15 (NIV), “Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword.” Out of the mouth of Jesus comes the sword of the Spirit. He speaks God’s word with power and authority. Out of your mouth should also come the word of God, the sword of the Spirit. Out of your mouth should come the word of God, spoken in the anointing, authority and power of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Listen to what the book of Ephesians 6:17 says (KJV), “The sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” The sword of the Spirit is there for everyone to use, to speak God’s word with boldness, with power and authority. The sword of the Spirit is one that should be held firmly in your hand, always ready to use, always ready for going forward and defeating the enemy. But for many Christians today, their sword has been put back into a sheathe, where it was not intended to be, and for many more, they have laid it down. However, the word of God, the sword of the Spirit, it waiting to be picked up again, to be held tightly and used to fight the good fight of faith. The Bible says in Psalm 149:6 (NIV), “May the praises of God be in their mouths and a doubled-edge sword in their hands.”

Our text for today says in Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. We demolish strongholds, and win the battle with it, but it can also minister healing, comfort and wholeness. It can divide the soul and spirit, it can divide the flesh from the spirit, it can cut through all the superficial religiosity and bring you close to God. It is living and active, it is always full of progress. It is there for building up and making you strong in the Lord. The sword of the Spirit can protect and cover you by the power of God.

My friend, within your grasp is the most powerful sword that this universe has seen, and will ever see. Use it wisely. Let the living, active, penetrating, dividing, powerful and healing sword of God’s Spirit, the word of God, be a mighty weapon to defeat the enemy, and bring healing, deliverance and liberty to all. But you have to use it, you have let it be active in your life, you have to let it be living in your heart, you have speak it out from your mouth in faith and in power, you have to hold it and never let it go, you have to wield it in battle and use it in prayer. In every area of you life, allow the Sword of the Spirit, the word of God, be a might weapon, and an instrument of healing and victory for the glory of God.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
