Revelation 12:11 (NIV) ~ They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the word for their testimony.

Revelation 12:11 (NIV) ~ They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the word for their testimony.

What kind of testimony do you have?

The following account happened many years ago in an American College during a graduation ceremony.  After the ceremony, they asked the local Minister to address the new graduates, to encourage them.  He began by telling them, “You’re all gonna’ die, they’re gonna’ bury you six feet under and cry over you, and then go back to your house and eat potato salad. What will all your certificates mean to you then? What will people say about you when you’re gone? What kind of testimony will you leave behind you? Don’t get me wrong, I know that the Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV), ‘Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth,’ but unless you get yourself a testimony it will all mean nothing. Furthermore, the Bible says in Proverbs 22:1 (KJV), ‘A GOOD name (a good testimony) is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.’”

The Minister paused for a moment, looking intently at the assembled college graduates, before going onto to say,

“Pharaoh had the palace, the riches and the power,

But Moses had the testimony.

Goliath was intimidating and over nine feet tall and clothed in all his armour,

But David had the testimony.

Jezebel had the influence and all the Prophets of Baal,

But Elijah had the testimony.

Nebuchadnezzar had the royal robes and the big house,

But Daniel had the testimony.

King Agrippa had the crown and his kingdom,

But the apostle Paul had the testimony.”

My friend, it is better to have a good name and a good testimony than all the riches this world can afford. Our text for today says in Revelation 12:11 (NIV), “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and the word for their testimony.” Keep your testimony strong and pure, treasure it, look after it and cherish it.

Only one life will soon be past, only what’s done for Jesus will last. When we go to heaven what kind of testimony will we leave behind? As we live our daily lives for Jesus here on earth, what kind of testimony do we have with our family, our friends, our next door neighbours, our work colleagues?

Let’s keep it real, let’s keep it alive and let’s have a good testimony for Jesus and for the kingdom of our ABBA FATHER.

My prayer is: Father, let your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. May my life reflect something of Jesus, may my life be a good testimony to your saving grace. May I live for you and may I allow you to mould me and shape me into the likeness of Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen.

God bless you my friend, Matthew
