Judges 5:17 (NIV) ~ And Dan why did you linger by the ships?

Judges 5:17 (NIV) ~ And Dan why did you linger by the ships?

Deborah, under God, had rallied God’s people to rise up and take the fight to the enemy. They answered the call to go – to go and do something for God, to rise up and be counted among those who put their shoulder to the mill, but Dan lingered by his ship with one excuse after another. You will always find that within a church there are those who will go and who love to be involved, and those who will always make excuses.

Someone once said to me, “Matthew, you will find within church circles there are too many generals and not enough soldiers.” The Bible says in Matthew 9:37 (NIV), “Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.’” It takes everyone working together to gain a greater victory in the battlefield. Can you imagine what would happen if everyone within the church was involved in the fight for souls?

Dan lingered by his ship counting his money. He provided only empty lip service with no intention of going into battle, yet wanted to be counted in with everyone else when the victory was won. He lingered at his ship while the battled raged. He was ready to bail out if things did not work out. He lingered while the people of Israel went to war. They put their lives on the line for God and for His kingdom.

God is looking for faithful people who will rise up and be counted, who will not linger while the harvest is plentiful, but will rise up and be involved without making excuses. My friend, when the rally call comes to be involved in the end-time harvest of souls, will you be like Dan and linger by your ships or will you rise up and be counted for God?

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
