Luke 12:35 (NIV) ~ “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning.”

Luke 12:35 (NIV) ~ “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning.”

This is a very dynamic verse; packed with power that will challenge and equip you for your daily walk with Jesus. It is direct in its application, starting with the first words which are “doing words”: be dressed ready for service. Dressed, in the Greek is. “perizonnymi” meaning to buckle a belt around you, gird, dressed for service, prepared for action. Since 1907, the Scout Motto has been “be prepared”, which means you are always in a state of readiness in mind and body to do your duty.

Always be alert, ready for the battle with the word of God, the sword to the Spirit held in your hand, dressed in the whole Armour of God, ready to go forward in service for your King, lacking nothing, but being dressed with His beauty and clothed in His power.

Now, we come to the second part of our verse from Luke 12: 35 (NIV), “…and keep your lamps burning.” Always keep the fire of the Holy Spirit burning brightly within you. Let your light shine; let it burn brightly from Jesus. Keep going to the Supplier for a fresh infilling of the Oil of the Holy Spirit. To keep going to Jesus Christ every day shows your total dependence upon Him for your everyday needs.

My friend, as you go to Jesus every day for your daily bread, as you go to Jesus daily for a fresh infilling of the Holy Spirit, as you go to Jesus daily to dress in His Armour so you remain ready and dressed for service, you will always keep the fire of the Holy Spirit burning with passion and power for the glory of God.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
