1 John 1:1 (NIV) ~ “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.”

1 John 1:1 (NIV) ~ “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.”

We have heard,

We have seen,

We have looked at,

We have touched,

We proclaim.

All these senses are personal ones from John’s personal relationship with Jesus:  heard, seen, looked at and touched. Furthermore, John then goes on to say, “This we proclaim concerning the word of Life.”

So how does this verse impact your life today? That which was from the beginning is, and was, and is to come, the LORD JESUS CHRIST. You have heard about him, you have heard about Jesus dying on the cross of Calvary for the sins of the world. You have seen His word, the Bible, and through many changed lives, the amazing, radical change that Jesus can bring. You have looked in awe of His ultimate sacrifice for you on the cross, and miracle after miracle of people saved, healed and set free. As you give your life to Jesus, you are touched by His mercy, forgiveness, compassion and love.

Your life becomes filled with His Life in you; day-by-day following Jesus you are changed from one degree of glory to another.

The most natural reaction is to tell someone about Jesus, about how much the Lord has done for you, just as our text for today says in 1 John 1:1, “This we proclaim concerning the Word of Life.”

My friend, when you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour you acted upon faith and faith comes from hearing the word of God. You then saw yourselves as sinners in need of a Saviour and saw His love for you on the cross. You have looked upon Him and let Him touch your life with His amazing grace, mercy and forgiveness. After being forgiven and experiencing a feeling of being so clean, with a new Life in Jesus through being born again, you want to share this amazing news with whoever will listen. You start to proclaim all these things concerning Jesus, the Word of Life, so many more souls will be saved.

Oh, what a powerful, radical, challenging, life changing verse this, it not only equips us but also gives us a powerful message to proclaim in His name.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
