Psalm 34:18 (NIV) The LORD is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
This verse alone sums up the compassion of the LORD: He is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Who better to go to when we are in need? We go to the Lord, who is mighty to save. God is near, so very close to the broken-hearted. His healing balm, his oil, brings a soothing healing, a healing which goes beyond the superficial, it reaches down to the very core and brings complete healing. He gives us the comfort and the strength to go on.
I have seen people so crushed, so hurt, not only are their faces downcast, but their spirit is crushed. God will never crush your spirit; on the contrary, He only wants to build you up. I have seen people who have lost a limb, yet have risen above their loss and been a conqueror. However, in the natural there is no prosthetic for an amputated spirit. Only by going to God, leaning on Him will you find true healing. The Bible tells the story of a man with a shrivelled hand (hand withered) in Matthew 12: 9 to 14 (NIV) In these Scriptures we see how Jesus brought about the complete healing and restoration, not only in the natural man but also his spiritual man. Not only was the man physically healed but also spiritually. Not to mention the paralytic man who lay on the mat in Matthew 9: 1 to 6 (NIV) He was healed and his sins forgiven. Physically and spiritually healed by the love, mercy and grace of Jesus Christ.
He can heal the crushed spirit. He and He alone, can bring you restoration. He alone can lift you up. He can take your crushed spirit and rebuild you into a better, stronger person. If you feel you have lost something in your spirit life, then turn to the Lord, He can and will make you whole again.
When we need someone to lean on, when we need someone to trust in, someone who is mighty to save, tender to heal, someone who will help us, then look no further, turn to the Lord. The Bible says in Psalm 25:2 (Amplified Bible), “O my God, I trust, lean on, rely on, and am confident in You.” Confident as I lean on you my Lord, I will find all that I need to lift me up, heal my heart and give me the strength to go on, with a new positive attitude.
There is an old gospel song written by Bill Withers called, “Lean On Me.”
Sometimes in our lives we all have pain, we all have sorrow,
But if we are wise, we know that there’s always tomorrow.
Lean on me, when you’re not strong, and I’ll be your friend,
I’ll help you carry on, for it won’t be long,
‘Til I’m gonna need, somebody to lean on.
My friend, God’s desire is to save you, to lift you up and heal your broken heart. Today let us draw great strength and comfort from our text for today in Psalm 34:18 (NIV), “The LORD is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” His compassion’s fail not, His mercies, they never end, great is Thy faithfulness oh Lord, great is Thy faithfulness.
God’s desire is to save, heal and restore you today. Let Him minister to your life and lift you up once more. Let Him heal your broken heart, lift up your crushed spirit. Let Him bring restoration as you lean on Him.
God bless you my friend, Matthew.
