Proverbs 23:7 (KJV) ~ For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.
I recently watched the film, Cinderella Man. Towards the end of the film there is this fantastic moment of cinema brilliance. The film has this feel good factor about one man’s desire to help his family get through the great American depression by boxing for the world heavy weight boxing championship. As you are caught with the story, you find yourself cheering and willing James J. Braddock (played by Russell Crow), to win against Max Baer (Craig Bierko). In the last round, Baer knocks Braddock down, and while Braddock is trying to get back up, he closes his eyes and he envisions Baer lying on the ground knocked out, and himself as the new heavy weight champion of the world. But while he is getting up Baer heads menacingly towards him to deliver the next punch to knock the challenger out so he can remain the undefeated champion. To his surprise, however, Braddock gets up and fights with everything that is within him. The bell sounds to stop the fight, then the anguishing wait, as the referee counts up the score cards. The whole crowd that had crammed into Madison Square Garden for this fight, held its breath. Then comes the announcement, “Ladies and gentlemen, we have a unanimous dissuasion, and a new heavy weight champion of the world in James J. Braddock.”
You see, in the film, James J. Braddock saw himself knocking out his opponent and winning the fight to become the new heavy weight champion of the world on June 13Th, 1935.
Proverbs 23:7 (KJV) says, “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
My friend, what would have happened if James J. Braddock, in the film, had just given up and did not get back up? He would have lost the fight, but more than that, he would have lost the dream to be the champion and look after his family. Sometimes we can receive a blow that knocks us down, but it takes great courage to get back up again. Courage and strength from the Lord will not only help you get back up, but will enable you to be the winner that God has placed in your heart to be.
Some people only see themselves as worms. They say, “Oh, I am only an unworthy worm.” That is all that they can see themselves as, so they find it hard to break out of a negative life style. They go from one defeat to another. In their heart, they have given up; they only see themselves as defeated. However, they word of God points to you as a winner, as a champion, as an awesome powerful child of the living God!
The enemy of our souls would have us think that we are no good and that we are a lost cause. But that is not true. In the eyes of the Lord, you are a champion, you are a winner, you are more than a conqueror through Him who loves you.
Believe in the power of prayer,
Believe in the promises of God,
Believe in your heart that you are a soul winner,
Believe in your heart that you can do all that the Bible says you can do,
Believe in your heart that you are strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Believe in your heart that you are a winner in Jesus, that you can do all things through Him who strengthens you.
Believe in your heart that you are a champion in Him. You have got to see yourself as one, and never give up believing. “For as man thinketh in his heart, so he is.”
Winston Churchill once said, “Never, never, never give up!”
Even if the enemy knocks you down, keep believing and get back up and deliver that knockout blow through the word of God and prayer. You are a champion in the Lord! Keep believing for your family to be blessed, and for all the good dreams that you have for God to come true. Keep believing in your heart that you can do it, for as our text for today says in Proverbs 23:7 (KJV), “For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he.”
God bless you my friend, Matthew.
