Proverbs 27:17 (NIV) ~ As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Proverbs 27:17 (NIV) ~ As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

I recently watched a Master Chef on a cookery programme take a steel rod and sharpen his knife with it. He would run the knife up and down the steel rod on both sides to sharpen it. Then he said this, “Never lose your cutting edge, always stay sharp.”

Iron cannot sharpen itself; it has to have something which is far stronger to sharpen it. We stay sharp by faithfully reading our Bibles, faithfully spending time in the presence of the Lord in prayer, faithfully praying in the Holy Spirit, being a good witness for the Lord by telling people about Jesus and maintaining a good testimony by Kingdom living.

When we spend time in fellowship one with another, talking about the Bible, talking about our dear and precious Lord Jesus, we are, in effect, sharpening each other with the word of God. As we are doing the works of Jesus, let us daily follow in His footsteps and keep our sword of the spirit sharp with a cutting edge.

My friend, let us always help one another to keep the cutting edge in our walk with God. May we let our Master Jesus Christ constantly keep us fresh by daily yielding ourselves to His will. May we allow the Holy Spirit to sharpen both sides of our spiritual and natural lives. Let us together stay in shape and be alert with a cutting edge. Let us, together, strengthen one another and help each other to always stay fresh in the Lord. Let us keep that cutting edge to our testimony, our ministry and our spiritual lives for the glory of God.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.

  1. Dear Matthew: Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on this subject. I am having a difficult time and was looking for some inspiration. Your message provided so much comfort. The photo at the top of your page is lovely, too. I saw scenery like that in Ireland. The emergence of green life after the winter is always an affirmation of God’s love for me. Thank you again. Yours truly, Brenda
