Joshua 1:9 (NIV) Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

Joshua 1:9 (NIV) Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

On four separate verses in chapter one of the book of Joshua, we read God about saying these inspirational words to Joshua, from verse 6, 7, 9, and verse 18. ‘Be strong and courageous.’  Then on the last verse God is exhorting Joshua with an explanation mark, endorsing the point, encouraging him, stirring him up inside to, ‘be strong and courageous.’ For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

God is a covenant keeping God, a God who keeps all his promises. To live in all the blessing of this covenant we have to be covenant people; people who will follow the Lord, and his guidance, His instruction to us, for us to live in the benefits of it.

Here is Joshua 1:7 to 8 (NIV) God lays Joshua his role, his path, his part to do; to fulfil his place as a covenant keeper before the lord.

Joshua 1:7 to 8 (NIV) Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

Joshua was about to cross over into a new threshold, in ministry, in leadership and in his own personal life. All of which can be daunting, but with every step, with every decision, every battle, every area; Joshua has to lean to place God in the centre of it all. To seek His will, to spend time in prayer and the word of God. To know the wisdom of the lord and how best to implement it.

He would undoubtedly experience criticism, and even moments of self-doubt; he would hear reports that would make the hearts and courage of some men fail. But no matter what lay before him, God was stirring him up, building Joshua up and holding him up, with these words,

Joshua 1:9 (NIV) Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

My friend, whatever you face today, whatever personal battles, or whatever threshold stands before you to cross, into new areas of ministry to serve. Know that the Lord your God will be with your wherever you go, just as God gave instruction unto Joshua on how to be successful in every area of his life, so God is passing that on to you today. So that you will be inspired, and stirred up to know the word for the Lord for you today; from our text for today, Joshua 1:9 (NIV) Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
