2 Samuel 9:11 (NIV), “So Mephibosheth ate at David’s table like one of the king’s sons.”

2 Samuel 9:11 (NIV), “So Mephibosheth ate at David’s table like one of the king’s sons.”

Mephibosheth went from a pauper to a prince, from begging to abundance, from eating on the floor to eating at the Kings table and from living in poverty to living in the palace, all because of the power of covenant. Mephibosheth no longer had to endure rejection, or being over looked. He no longer had to live like a pauper because of the covenant that David made with Jonathan, Mephibosheth’s father. David wanted to show him kindness and bless him, because of the covenant.

Mephibosheth was crippled in both legs. In Old Testament times, the law forbade someone like Mephibosheth from coming near to the holy place. And because he could not do the things which other people could do, the only thing left for him was to beg. But notice the power of covenant. King David remembered his covenant with Jonathan; Mephibosheth’s father, and because of the strength of that covenant, David showed him grace and mercy; he showed him favour, and give him a new beginning. He took away his clothes of poverty, and clothed him in royal robes, he lifted him out of poverty and gave him a new home. But more than that, much more than Mephibosheth could imagine, he had a place at the table of the King in the great city of Jerusalem.

My friend, even though every one of us were crippled in our spirits by the affliction and corruption of sin, Jesus has cleansed us and He has healed us. He has taken away our filthy rags and clothed us with royal robes we did not deserve. He has lifted us up from our poverty and bestowed upon us, His riches. He has showered us with His mercy and grace and has lifted us from our place without shelter, into the City and palace of the Great King where we feast at His banquet. In Jesus, we have been given a new beginning.

We come near to God, through Jesus, having been made whole in His name, and washed clean by His precious blood, because of the New Covenant made with His Father for us. We, like Mephibosheth, have a place at the table of the great King. We have been shown favour and kindness because of the covenant that was made when Jesus was on the cross, and we have been raised from being a pauper to being a king (Rev 1:6 KJV).

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
