John 16:33 (KJV), “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
Firstly, Jesus told a man who was sick, “Be of good cheer, thy sins are forgiven.” Now that is something to cheer about, to know your sins are forgiven. Not only did the man know that his sins were forgiven, but he knew Jesus as his healer. Now there is something else to cheer about, Jesus as your healer.
Secondly, in the midst of a storm, when Jesus walked on the water, the disciples were calling out to Jesus. Then Jesus says to them, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.” In the midst of the storms of life, Jesus is right there to calm the raging waters and bring us peace; He will bring you safely to the other side. He is your all sufficient one, your EL SHADDAI.
Thirdly, when we face troubles, times of testing in trials and tribulation, be of good cheer for Jesus has overcome the world. He has made His victory ours. He is mighty to save. We may have good days and not so good days, but be of good cheer (take heart), for He has already overcome.
My friend, the three cheers of Jesus are ones of hope, wholeness and healing. They show that He is powerful and mighty to save. They give comfort, encouragement, strength and victory.
So today be of good cheer because of Jesus. Take strength, draw encouragement from, and live in the benefit of Him being our all sufficient One. Let us be filled with the hope of glory and be of good cheer, for greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.
God bless you my friend, Matthew.
Matthew,
Hi! I’m the lady you sat next to on the flight from Glasgow to PA the end of May. I’m the one with the “old” book on David Livingstone. Sorry it has taken me so long to write. Life has been busy!!
I read your devotional on “Be of Good Cheer” and I enjoyed it very much.
How was your visit in the States? Hope all went well.
Sincerely,
Rebecca J. Storey
