1 Corinthians 1:2 (NIV), “To the church of God in Corinth , to those sanctified in Christ Jesus.”

1 Corinthians 1:2 (NIV), “To the church of God in Corinth , to those sanctified in Christ Jesus.”

Paul begins this first of two letters to the church of God in Corinth , with words of thankfulness for the grace of God in them. Corinth had a very bad reputation, and for all intents and purposes, we might call it “Sin city”. To many, this was a “no go” area. The people of Corinth indulged in all sorts of sins, such as male and female prostitution, the worship of false god’s, and in general, there was the aloofness and sheer snobbery of many between the “haves” and the “have nots”. It was a place riddled with crime, and even among certain church members, there were suspect activities going on.

But where sin increased, the grace of God increased yet the more. The two books of First and Second Corinthians are an outline of guidance for what Godly living should be; of Kingdom living on earth as it is in heaven. God, by the power of His Holy Spirit, turned the people of the city of Corinth , who were lost in sin, into those called and sanctified by grace in the Lord Jesus Christ.

My friend, if God can do it in Corinth , God can do it anywhere! There is no person too far gone in debauchery that God cannot cleanse, no town too hard that cannot be touched by the power of God, no “sin city” too lost that cannot not be saved. If God can do it in Corinth , God can do it anywhere. He can bring a revival, He can bring hope to the hopeless, and healing to the broken hearted. He can make the darkest places shine with the light of His truth. God can turn a place that is so gripped by sinfulness and crime, where some people would say, “It’s too hard, it’s a “no go” area”, into a place where godliness abounds. Nothing is impossible for God; He can turn things around. If God can save Saul of Tarsus and save the people of Corinth , if He can turn the city of sin into a city saved by the power of God, then He can do it again in the day in which we live. If God can do it in Corinth , my friend, He can do it anywhere.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
