John 8:32 (NIV), “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”.

John 8:32 (NIV), ”Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”.

It is one thing to say that you know about Jesus Christ, but its another thing to say that you KNOW Him. Jesus said of Himself, in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth and the life”. So many people that I have met over the years, who struggle with a drinking problem, a drug problem, a problem with immoral thoughts, an abusive problem, a temper problem or a gambling problem, have one thing in common, and that is that they want to be free from it all.

You can try all sorts of solutions, from counseling to rehabilitation classes, but the only real thing that will set you free from these things is the Lord Jesus Christ.  Jesus has the power to break any stronghold that is over your life, and set you free. The Bible says in John 8:36 (NIV), “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed”.

Sometimes, for people who are gripped and held fast by something that they find hard to break free from, it can become like a prison from which they want to be set free, so they can enjoy living and breathing the fresh air of freedom. This old gospel song speaks of such an experience, an experience that is only truly known by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour.

Long my imprisoned spirit lay, fast bound in sin and nature’s night;
Thine eye diffused a quickening ray— I woke, the dungeon flamed with light;
My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee.

My friend, when you have tried everything, but Jesus, and in the words of Bono from the rock group U2, you say, “I still haven’t found what I am looking for”, then turn to Jesus Christ, accept Him as your Lord and Saviour, and ask Him to set you free. Let the words of our text today minister to your life, John 8:32 (NIV) ”Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”.

God bless you my friend, Matthew.
