John 5:7 (NIV) “’Sir,’ the invalid replied, ‘I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”
Is it possible to go to a church to worship God in the midst of the congregation of His people, and still feel all alone? I see lonely people every week going to church, with no one to help them. Everyone too busy, with their own little inner circle, and not allowing others to fit into their little “holy huddle”, then the excluded ones are left to “just get on with it”, with no one to help them. They feel all alone. So when they do go to church, they feel invisible and sometimes they become cannon fodder to those who, wittingly or unwittingly, exclude them from their groups.
This man in our story said, “Sir, I have no one to help me get into the pool when the water is stirred.” This was a longing for a healing touch for thirty-nine years. Notice if you will, that when Jesus comes along, He is a friend, a helper, a healer and Saviour to those upon whom others have turned their backs. The Bible says in Hebrews 13:5 to 6 (NIV) about Jesus, “He will never leave you nor forsake you. So we say with confidence ‘The Lord is my helper.’” Psalm 68:6 (NIV) says that God sets the lonely in families. In His family, where we accepted in the beloved, we are never overlooked, we are valued by God, and loved with an everlasting love.
My friend, when at times, you do feel all alone, and it seems that there is no one to help, there is Jesus, who sticks closer than a brother, who will lift you up, heal you and make you whole. Jesus Christ is not only our Master, Saviour and Lord, but also our dearest friend, who is there for us always. You will never be alone ever again when Jesus comes into your life.
God bless you my friend, Matthew.
