Romans 8 :37 (NIV) “ No in all things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us “.
More than a conqueror.
I can’t begin to imagine what the pain was like on the cross for Jesus. The pain and suffering that He endured for my sin. All the pain of the whipping by the Jews, the scourging by the Romans. Being beat up by them, being mocked. Having a crown of large thorns trust upon His head, and then being beaten on the head as the thrones dug in deep. Also to have His beard plucked out. To have nails hammered into His hands. The Bible says in Isaiah 52:13 to 14 (NIV) ..then again in chapter 53: 3 to 7 (NIV) of His suffering and pain. His appearance was so disfigured beyond any man and his form was marred beyond human likeness, Psalm 23 :14 (NIV) also says ” All my bones are out of joint “. Then again in Psalm 23: 16 to 17 (NIV) “They have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones and they gloat over me“.
When Jesus died on the cross all seemed lost, however that was just the start of the greatest victory ever won! As three days later He rose form the grave a risen, glorified, victorious Saviour of the world!
He went down and took the keys of the devil of death hell and the grave. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 15: 54 to 55 (NIV) ”Death had been swallowed up in victory, where o death is your victory? where o death is your sting?”
Verse 57 then goes onto say, ”But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ“.
Jesus has won the victory for us all, by beating the devil. He is the undefeated undisputed champion of love.
Imagine if you will two fighters in a ring, going for the prize. There are so many blows struck, blood is spilled. Then one of them knocks the other to the ground. The bad guys crowd cheer their man on. While the other side look on as their man takes the count of eight. Then after the eight count he get up and knocks the bad guy out. Now the good guys crowd rejoice as he is handed the prize purse and trophy.
He then goes home and hands it over to his bride. He was a conqueror as he won the fight, but she is more than a conqueror as she did not have to fight for it.
The Bible says,” we are more than a conqueror.” Jesus won it all. He then came to us, “His bride “ and says,” my victory is your victory, youare now more than a conqueror.”
We are more than conquerors through Him who loves us. If God be for us who can stand against us?
In the Old Testament there is the story of Samson and a donkeys jaw bone in Judges 15: 1 (NIV). The donkey’s jaw bone was just lying there. Now some people might say to them selves. That donkeys jaw bone is not up to much, it can not do much. But when it got in to the hands of Samson. What can it not do now that Samson wields it.
So it is with us dear friends. Some people might have looked at us at one time and said, “what can you do, you can’t do much “. But when Christ by His spirit grips us. Surely we can adopt Paul’s faith-filled language from Philippians 4: 13 (NIV) and say, ”I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me“.
My friend, may today you live in the blessing of knowing that you are more than a conqueror, that you CAN do all things through Christ who strengthens you. That if God be for you, who can stand against you. Your a child of the King, walk tall, Jesus is standing right by your side. Believe it and live in it.
God bless you my friend, Matthew.
